GOSPEL group Kontagious, is to
perform in Bahrain next week.
The group will perform at Al Raja School Auditorium on Monday,
and at the National Evangelical Church on Tuesday, starting
at 7.30pm, on both nights.
Kontagious is among the most talked about contemporary gospel
bands in India, with over 40 worship concerts in the last
six years.
Their music is a combination of nu-metal and rock music with
Indian music influences.
The experiment, they say, is to bring a combination of Indian
music with rock and also to add pre-recorded sound samples
along with the live music on stage.
Group leader is Andy Park, from Canada, who had composed
The River Is Here and Blessed Be The Name.
"It is not a deliberate act to change traditional styles
of worship music, but a natural expression of what's in the
heart of a modern day worshipper," he said.
"There is nothing wrong with traditional music, but
there is also great merit in contemporary styles as it is
the music of today and spans across age and culture."
Kontagious mostly uses worship songs by the group Vineyard,
but there is always a sprinkling of popular songs from Delirious,
Hillsongs, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman and the numerous gifted
songwriters from around the world.
Their latest album is titled Just Contagious.
In Bahrain, the group Kontagious will perform along with
Bill Duke of the US and Saroop Oommen of India.
"It will be a unique opportunity for the young and old,
in Bahrain, to listen to this group, that attempts to spread
the message of peace as well of joy of union with God, in
a style that appeals to today's youth," said organisers.
The concert is open to all.
Entrance is free.
