Musician's Guinness bid with 10-ft-long flute!

For any musician, playing his or her favourite musical instrument may as well give him the feeling of being transported into the world of melody with the sweet notes of music enveloping him all around.

But, for Ramkrishan Trivedi, a sixty-eight-year old music teacher, his obsession with the flute goes much beyond. He has created a unique one of its kind ten feet long flute, which can be played with expertise and is not just a dummy.

Ramkrishan, who has cited the television programme 'Surabhi' as his inspiration behind his creation, said that the idea to create a flute, which would not sound like a traditional one, seemed interesting to him.

"I thought of making such a musical instrument which when played from behind the curtain, would puzzle the audience. I wanted to make something different. So, I zeroed on the flute. First, I started off with a 7 feet flute and then 8 feet. Later I made a flute about 10 feet long with a diameter of about 2.5 inches. I could play all these long flutes made up of pipes," said Ramkrishan.

Though he has never ever made a flute and all his creations have been the result of Trial and error experimentations, he is optimistic about his latest creation featuring in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Getting the right notes was also difficult. After a painsticking procedure involving the pricking of holes in the flute and again closing them to get the right tunes, Ramakrishna was able to get the right notes on the flute.

Ramkrishan humbly attributes his achievement to God's blessings, but now wants financial aid to be provided to him for imparting music lessons to young people.

"I request the administration to give me some grants and aid. I have been a music teacher for about 30 years. I can play many musical instruments. It would be really great if I am able to share my knowledge and experience among the children. I want the government to help me in this," he said.
