Renowned vocalists enthral Ludhiana audience

VIRASAT - a music concert by renowned vocalists Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra was organised at Delhi Public School on Oct 7 under Spicmacay, Society for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth.

Those who had the privilege of enjoying their enchanting performance included Vivek Ramchandani, Director, Education, Takshila Educational Society, guests, faculty and students of various schools.

The programme began with a shloka sung by Hema Sharma, music teacher at DPS. Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra, the stalwarts of Indian classical music, enthralled the audience with their mellifluous voice. This rejuvenated the jaded spirits, a complete break from the daily grind. The ’Shri’ and ’Sohni’ ragas coupled with the Tarana sung by them were mesmerising. The ornate backdrop provided a perfect match for their sonorous voice.

The two also answered the queries of the audience. They concluded the concert with a shabad of Guru Nanak Dev. Delhi Public School also presented mementos to Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra as a token of gratitude.

Spicmacay unveils plan for winter convention

THE second winter convention of SPICMACAY to be held in Delhi Public School this December will be a merger of Indo-Pak artists. Unveiling the projects for the convention which will be a three-day extravaganza starting from December 20, Manveen Sandhu, the state head of the organisation, said, ‘‘The artists we have here in India to a very large extent have their counterparts in Pakistan too. This winter we plan to bring the two together and they will perform side by side on one platform. Like we have the Manganiyars of Rajasthan and in Pakistan we have Manginayars who live in south Punjab. During this convention, the two groups will perform together.’’ Sandhu, meanwhile, did not divulge the list of other artists who will perform in the convention, saying, ‘‘Visa regualtions are still an uphill task and though we have a list of artists, till the time we get their confirmation, we will not like to name them.’’ Manveen Sandhu said, ‘‘Our aim is to make the most of the congenial environment between India and Pakistan.’’ She also promised that Ludhiana and the DPS will play host to some of the Indian artists who will perform in the city for the first time.’’ At the press meet, Rajan and Sajan Mishra also talked about their art. Talking to media, the duo said, ‘‘People should not give up on classical music on the pretext that they cannot understand it. No one can even make a head or tale of pop music but then just as we have adapted ourselves to hear and like pop music the same should be done for the classical too, which is the richest heritage of the nation.’’ At today’s performance, the duo plan to play the ragas depicting the evening and the dusk.
