Music has been evoking the feeling of patriotism

Many a poet and composer spelt out masterpieces for the country but one name that stands tall is that of Kavi Pradip. Kavi Pradip was known as a patriotic lyricist who was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke award and the Lata Mangeshkar Puraskar for his notable contribution to the field of music. He spent his entire life glorifying India with his words and songs.

Amit Kilam, percussionist of the band Indian Ocean almost screams out with sheer frustration when asked if he would like to hear a remixed version of the National Anthem. “No way! Its such a beautiful tune in itself. Why would you want to ruin it?”

Sare jahan se achha is the first song that comes to his head when prompted with the word “patriotism”. He says, “There are issues that bind a nation. One hint of trouble and we all will bind together, its just that its not visible on a day to day basis. Patriotism is definitely not dying out.” They have a patriotic song of their own called Des Mera in the album Jhini.

Dr Anil Wilson, Principal of St Stephen’s College agrees. “I hate watching what these guys have done to my favourite songs. There is no way that I will accept a remixed version of Jana gana mana.”

“I feel today’s generation is really patriotic as they are coming back to India after successful careers in advanced countries. They really want to make a difference. Akhir dil hai Hindustaani...” he adds.
