World Rocks to Indian Tunes at Grand Soiree at Davos

The world rocked to Indian tunes here at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum on Saturday night where band galas and sarees rubbed shoulder with black tie and evening dress.

The top honchos from around the globe partied as Shamak Davar and troupe along with Usha Uthup and DJ Aqueel showcased the soft power of India at the Grand Soiree at this alpine village in Switzerland.

The Taj Mahal formed the backdrop for the performance by all artists. To add to the Indian music was Indian food from all the four directions of India - north, south, east and west. This was the second Soiree by India at the annual WEF meeting. The last was done 10 years back.

The Grand Soiree ended the five-day long campaign titled "India Everywhere" by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), IBEF and the Ministry of Tourism at Davos that coincided with the annual meeting of the WEF.

The focus of the WEF meeting at Davos this year was the emergence of India and China.

The soft power showcased on Saturday night concluded the strong pitch by the "dream team" from India comprising the Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamal Nath, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Ahluwalia, Chief Ministers of Delhi, Rajasthan and Kerala and leading business leaders from India.
