M.S.Gopalakrishnan is the top ranking violinist
of India. He has bee in the field for over fifty years. MSG
is the son of the late Parur Sundaram Iyer, the famous violinist
who was an authority on the two systems of Indian Classical
music, i.e., North Indian (Hindustani) and South Indian (Carnatic)
systems. He has learnt both Hindustani and Carnatic systems
from his father. MSG is the only violinist giving solo concerts
in both Hindustani and Carnatic styles.
MSG is an outstanding accompanist and a unique soloist. He
has developed a new style known as the 'Parur' style. This
style encompasses his superb bowing and fingering technique.
MSG had done vast research on violin playing techniques.
He has trained a number of students in India and abroad including
his daughter M. Narmada, who has completed her Doctorate in
Music studying the music of both Indian classical styles.
She accompanies him in his solo concerts.
