Meera Sivaramakrishnan is one of the front
ranking popular young violinists. She is the daughter and
disciple of her mother "Kalaimamani" Smt. Radha
Narayanan, a well-known senior violinist. Meera started performing
at the age of 9 and soon developed the capacity to adapt her
to the style of any vocalist/instrumentalist in violin accompaniment.
Meera has accompanied top ranking artists like Flutist Mali,
Dr. N.Ramani, Sikkil Sisters, Dr. Balamurali Krishna, Mandolin
U.Srinivas, Mani Krishnaswamy, etc.
In October 1985, Meera broke the world record by performing
a non-stop 26 hours solo violin recital at Shri Ratnagiriswarar
Temple, Chennai and entered the guiness book. She is also
the recipient of many awards from prestigious institutions
like the Music Academy, Shri Krishna Gana Sabha, etc. The
Managing Committee of Shri Ratnagiriswarar Temple, Besant
Nagar, Chennai awarded the Title "Nanisai Vallabhi"
to Meera on the 4th September 1987 and made her the "Asthana
Vidushi" of the temple.
Meera is also a good vocalist-a disciple of her mother "Kalaimamani"
Smt. Radha Narayanan. Later she had training under Shri D.K.
Jayaraman and Shri T.M. Thyagarajan.
Meera accompanied Smt. Mani Krishnaswamy in the festival
of India in USSR and Germany in 1988 and 1992, respectively.
She has toured USA, UAE, and UK.
Meera has been awarded the prestigious National Award "Indira
Gandhi Priyadarshini Award-1995" for outstanding contributions
in the field of Carnatic Classical Music. Has been awarded
"The Best Senior Violinist Award", by THE INDIAN
FINE ARTS SOCIETY, CHENNAI, in December - 1999-2000.
A Math’s graduate from the Madras University, Meera
is an "A" grade artist and is currently employed
with All India Radio, Chennai as Staff Artist.
