R.K.Shriramkumar

Hails from the Rudrapatnam family of musicians; born on October 4, 1966; son of Smt. Kusuma Krishnamurthy & Shri. R.V.Krishnamurthy; grandson of the respected veteran violinist Sangita Kalaratna Shri R.K.Venkatarama Shastry.

Had initial training in violin playing from Smt. Savitri Satyamurthy; then had advanced training from his grandfather, Shri R.K.Venkatarama Shastry. Presently receives guidance from Vidwan Shri V.V.Subrahmanyam. Also had training in vocal music from Sangita Kalanidhi Shri D.K.Jayaraman.

Received blessings and performed in the divine presence of the Acharyas of Jagadguru Shri Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam, Dakshinamnaya Shri Sharada Peetam, Sringeri and Shri Kamakoti Peetam, Kanchipuram.

Accompanied most of the senior musicians of the Carnatic music firmament and has had the blessed and distinguished privilege of accompanying in many concerts doyens such as Sangita Kalanidhi Shri D.K.Jayaraman, Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. D.K. Pattammal, Sangita Kalanidhi, Bharat Ratna Smt. M.S.Subbulakshmi, Sangita Kalanidhi Shri K.V.Narayanaswamy, Sangita Kalanidhi Shri. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Sangita Kalanidhi Smt.T.Brinda, Sangita Kalanidhi Shri T.Vishwanathan & Padma Bhushan Dr. S.Balachander.

Has also had the privilege of performing in the company of veteran percussionists such as Sangita Kalanidhi Shri T.K.Murthy, Vidwan Shri Vellore Ramabhadran, Vidwan Shri Palghat Raghu, Vidwan Shri Umayalpuram K.Sivaraman, Vidwan Shri Trichy Shankaran, Vidwan Shri Karaikudi Mani, Vidwan Shri Guruvayur Dorai, Vidwan Shri V. Nagarajan, Vidwan Shri Palghat Sundaram and Vidwan Shri T.H.Vinayakaram.

Performed for all the prestigious organizations & festivals in India including Sadguru Shri Tyagaraja Aradhana Festival, The Music Academy, Madras, Shanmukhananda Sangita Sabha, Bombay, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, the ICCR, the ITC Sangeet Sammelan, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, the All India Radio and Doordarshan.

Performed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi accompanying Smt. Geeta Rajshekhar in 1988 and Padma Vibhushan Shri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer in 1995 in the elitist presence of the then Prime Minister of India Shri. Rajiv Gandhi and the then Presidents of India, Shri. R.Venkataraman and Shri. Shankar Dayal Sharma.

Visited the USA, Australia, Canada, UK, Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Muscat on concert tours accompanying Smt Geeta Rajshekhar, Shri N.Vijay Siva, Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Shri K.V. Narayanaswamy, Shri S.Balachander, Shri T.N.Seshagopalan, Shri N.Ravikiran and Shri P.Unnikrishnan. Performed for the prestigious Theatre De la Ville at Paris accompanying Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan.

Released a recording of a solo recital and also has provided violin accompaniment in various pre -recorded cassette and compact disc recordings of Shri D.K.Jayaraman, Smt. M.S.Subbulakshmi, Smt. D.K.Pattammal, Shri K.V.Narayanaswamy, Shri N.Vijay Siva, Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Shri P.Unnikrishnan and others.

Received many awards and prizes from premier institutions such as The Music Academy, Madras. Recipient of the All India Radio National Competition prize, the ‘Yuva Kala Bharati’ award from Bharat Kalachar, Madras and the Kalki Memorial Award from the Kalki Krishnamurti Memorial Trust, Madras.

Graduate in Mathematics from the Madras University; alumnus of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School and Shri Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Madras. Founding member and former treasurer of the Youth Association for Classical Music, Madras and former committee member of the Madras Chapter of SPICMACAY.
