Born to Smt.Akhila Siva and Sri.A.N.Siva
on 29th March, 1967, Vijay Siva had his schooling in Padma
Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Chennai, graduated
with a first class from Vivekananda College, Chennai and secured
masters degree in Commerce from Madurai Kamaraj University.
Vijay Siva exibited rare intuitive capacity to identify ragas
at the age of four.Disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi
Sri D.K.Jayaraman since 1977and earlier learnt music from
his mother,a vocal musician from Carnatic Music College ,Chennai.Also
an accomplished Mridangist with a B.High AIR Grade,having
been trained by Kumbakonam Sri Rajappa Iyer.At present recieves
guidance in vocal music from Smt.D.K.Pattammal.
Awardee of Government of India Cultural Scholarship for vocal
music from 1979 to 1987.Secured more thatn hundred Prizes
both for music and for Murudangam including the first Prize
for Thevaram,Trichuvachakam and Thirupugazh in 1974,the coveted
Rajaji Tamboora in 1981-both from Tamil Isai Sangam,Chennai
and first prizes in Classical and Light Classical Music Competitions
conducted by AIR in 1984.
Given a number of concerts in important centres in India and
participated in the Music Festivals of Sangeet Natak Academy
-one at Bhubhaneshwar as a Mridangist and another at Chennai
as Vocalist.
Passed the Higher Grade Examination with distinction in Vocal
music conducted by the Tamil Nadu Govenrment in 1984 and Sangeet
Alankar Course conducted by the Gandharva Mahaviyalaya, New
Delhi.
- Has recorded for leading cassette publishing companies.
- An ‘A’ Grade Vocalist in AIR.
- Toured USA ,Singapore and Canada.
- Awarded “Youth Award for Exellence” by Maharajapuram
Viswanatha Iyer Trust in 1995.
- Awarded the title “ISAI PEROLI” Karthik Fine
Arts for the year 1995.
- First Recipient of “Kalki Krishnamurthy Award (1996)”
presented by Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust ,Chennai.
- Founder Secretary of the Youth Association for Classical
Muisc (YACM) an organization to promote young Musicans and
rasikas.
- Presented Carnatic Music based serial for Satellite Televisons.
Other Accomplishments
A stage actor and taken part in state and Television plays.Attained
the Silver Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. A regular
blood donar.
