Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, one of India’s
foremost santoor exponents, is recognised worldwide for the
sheer energy that he brings out through his concerts. Extremely
innovative in his approach, Tarunji’s concerts exude
a level of creativity, which has set new standards for following
generations.
Tarunji trained under his father Sri Robi Bhattacharya, Pandit
Dulal Roy and finally under the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar
himself.
Tarunji has performed innumerable concerts worldwide at some
of the world’s most prestigious venues. These include
the Royal Albert Hall in London; the Kremlin in Moscow and
the Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels.
He retains a yearly schedule, which is quite incredible in
it’s sheer range of travel. Be it in Paris, London,
Berlin, Tokyo, San Francisco, or Toronto, Tarunji’s
santoor has mesmerised audiences, transcending barriers of
age and culture.
Tarunji has over thirty recordings available worldwide. Among
some of his memorable recordings are "Chants" on
which he performed for Pandit Ravi Shankar and George Harrison
who were the Composer and producer of the album respectively;
"Imagination" and "Dreams" which are semi-classical
albums composed and performed by Tarunji; "Kirwani",
a Classical album which went on to the pre Grammy category
and also won an award in the US for brilliance of performance.
Tarunji has, of late, embarked on a unique project. He is
in the process of opening a santoor ashram on the outskirts
of Calcutta where students will reside and learn from the
Guru in the old Gurukul style.
