Nandini Srikar is a multi-talented musician
who has only recently started her musical career. She started
learning music from her mother at the age of three. Her musical
education saw her learning to play the Sitar, the Veena and
the Guitar. She was discovered by Hariharan at a party where
she started singing Hari's `Jiya Jiya na Jiya' to prompt him
to sing. Hari was so impressed with her vocal ability that
not only did he join her in singing, but also suggested her
to take up music as a full time career. Hari then started
recommending her to music directors in the South. Soon she
delivered her first South-Indian hit song `I Love You' for
the film `Uyirodu Uyiraaga'.
Nandini, besides being a singer is also India's first female
sessions guitar player. She has played the 12-string guitar
on albums like Hariharan's `Kaash' and Shaaan's `Tanha Dil'.
She has collaborated with Trilok Gurtu and Wally Badarou of
Level 42 on a world music album. She has sung for a number
of popular advertising jingles for companies like Coke, Pepsi,
Tata Tea and Onida, where she worked with Ranjit Barot and
Leslie Lewis. And if that's not enough to impress you, she
also has a Master's degree in Mathematics as well as an M.B.A.
in Human Resource Management. Her musical influences include
Steely Dan, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Page, Joni Mitchell
and Rachmaninonov.
