Srinivas was born on a wintry evening of
November at Ambassamudram in Tamil Nadu. He spent his early
years in Trivandrum, where, at an early age, he developed
an inclination towards music thanks to his aunt Ms. Padma
Narayan who at that time was doing her M.A in music. Seeing
her nephew's keen interest in music, Ms. Padma took Srinivas
under her wings. Though music was where Srinivas' heart was,
his brains urged him to pursue a vibrant educational career
and time saw Srinivas becoming a Chemical engineer with specialisation
in Textile Dyestuffs. He started working and even though music
was very much a part of his lifestyle, work, marriage, children
and other professional responsibilities took precedence.
The turning point in Srinivas' life came during his posting
at Coimbatore as Regional Manager for South and South East
Asia with Serene Dyestuff Industries Ltd. During an official
visit to Chennai he met A.R. Rahman who was to change his
life pattern for him. Rahman, on listening to Srini's voice,
told him that he had a good voice and if Srini shifted to
Chennai he'd give him a break as singer. The lure of pursuing
and making a career in his first love, music, was too great
for Srinivas. He quit his job and he shifted to Chennai.
As promised, Rahman, albeit two and a half years later, gave
Srinivas that promised break with the song Ooh la la la from
"Sapnay". The song was a big hit and with it Srinivas
formally arrived in the world of music. Since then Srinivas
has sung as many as 200 songs, many of them super hits, as
playback singer for Tamil and Telugu films. Some of his super
successful songs have been for movies like "Padayappa",
"Minsara Kanavu", "Jeans", "Taj Mahal"
etc. and apart from Rahman he has worked with other popular
composers like Illayaraja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Deva, Vidyasagar
and Bharadwaj. Srinivas is now being offered work by composers
of Hindi film music and he has recorded a song with Jatin-Lalit
for the movie "Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya" and
Paagalpan" with Raju Singh. Some of his songs that are
already a hit with Hindi film music listeners are Dola dola
from "Dil Hi Dil Mein", Tararumpum chalo usko doondenge
hum from "Doli Sajake Rakhna" and Yeh jo zindagi
hain from "1947 - Earth".
