This is a janya raga derived from
the 20th mela Natabhairavi. Although this raga has sampoorna
arohana and avarohana^ this is a janya raga and also
a bhashanga raga wherein the anyasvara comes in the
scale itself. The phrase sgrgm occurs as a visesha prayoga.
An eka anya svara bhashnga raga. Chatusruti Dha occurs
in pdns^ pdnsr^ pdndns etc. In the phrase pdndp both
Dha occurs. Ri^ Ga^ Ma and Ni are raga chaya svaras.
Ga^ Ma and Ni figure as kampita svaras and Ri^ Pa^ Ma
and Ni occurs as nyasa swaras. Janta svaraprayogas and
dattu varisas lend beauty to this raga. A rakthi raga
giving scope for elaborate alapana. All types of compositions
are prevalent in this raga. Kausikam of Tamil music
is the corresponding raga of Bhairavi. Regarding the
origin history of this raga^ the time is attributed
to that od Shadja grama and it is supposed to be prevalent
some 1500 years go. It is the 7th of the 19th prasidha
melas mentioned by old scholars. Mention of this mela
is found in old works like Sangita Ratnakara^ Sangita
Makaranda and Sangitasamayasara. |
