An audava janya raga derived from
the 8th mela Hanumatodi. There is a famous sloka which
gives the lakshana of this raga. Ga^ Pa and Dha are
the jiva svaras of this janya raga. The svaras taken
by this raga are Shadja^ Sudha Ri^ Sadharana Ga^ Pa
and Sudha Dha. There exists an opinion that this type
of raga which takes Antara Ga^ is Revagupti derived
from the 15th mela Mayamalavagaula^ Ma and Ni are varjya
Svaras. Sa is the graha svara whereas Ga and Pa comes
as nyasa svara and amsa svaras. A deshya raga having
tristhayi snchna^ Ga and Dha are rendered as dirgha
svaras. Janta svara prayoga like rrggppdd^ ggppddss^
and dattu prayoga like drsrds^ gdpdgp etc figure in
frequently. In Tamil music this raga figures in the
name of Puranirmai pan and some tevarams are composed
in this raga. An early morning raga^ considered to be
auspicious. This raga is played in nagaswaram before
the opening of the sanctum sanctorum. In the asmpoorna
mela padhathi the 8th mela is known as Bhoopalam. This
raga is also used in slokas^ folk songs^ ritualistic
music and Kathakali music. |
