This is an audava sampoorna raga
derived from the 29th mela Dhirasankarabharanam. This
is also known as Balahari and Bilaahari. Ma and Ni are
varjya in the arohana. This is an ekanya svara bhashanga
raga and kaishiki Ni^ is the bhashanga svara that occurs
in the svara phrase pdndppdnpdp. Ri^ Ni and Dha are
the raga chaya svaras while Pa and Ri are nyasa svaras^
snp is a visesha sanchara. Vira rasa pradhana for those
who are melancholic^ and depressed. A tristhayi raga
that is well distributed. The appropriate time for singing
this raga is in the morning. Janta swaras^ Dattu svara
prayogas add to the melodic beauty of the raga. The
closely similar Deshakshi raga brings out its individually
in the tristhayi sancharas especially gggggr srgrs.
The reverse arohana and avarohana of Bilahari gives
the raga Garudadhwani. Thygaraja is believed to have
brought to life a dead man singing ‘na jeevadhara’
in this raga. |
