This is the 58th melakartha that belongs to the 8th Chakra Vasu. ‘Vasu - Sri’ is the mnemonic phrase is sa ri gi mi pa dhi ni. According to Dikshitar school this raga is known by the name Simharava. This is the pratimadhyama mela of Kharaharapriya. Svaras taken by this mela besides Sa and Pa are Chatusruti Ri^ Sadharana Ga^ Prati Ma^ Chatusruti Dha and Kaishiki Ni. The jiva svara of this raga are Ri^ Ma and Dha^ whereas Pa comes as amsa svara. Compostions commence on Ri and Pa. Ga and Dh are raga chaya svaras. A tristhayi raga that shines well when rendered with gamaka. Janata and dattu svara enhance the melodic beauty of the raga.
