Raga Today - NATTAKURINJI


A shadava audava janya raga derived from the 28th mela Harikambhoji. In certai cases this raga admits of 2 types of arohana and avarohana. An upanga raga in which Pa occurs once in a while s n d n p d n s ; s r g m p m g r s ; npgrs phrases occur as visesha prayogas. Ga^ Ma^ Dha and Ni are the raga caya svaras sdp is an visesh prayoga. This tristhayi raga is best when sung in the evening. The raga evokes karuna and bhakthi rasas. According o krama arohana and avarohana Pa is deleted. In Hindusthani Music Natakurinji is also known as Natakarunji. The main difference between the to is that in Hindusthani music thi raga has vakra sanchara in arohana alone whereas in the carnatic music vakra sancharas occur in both.
